The Royal Palace of Caserta is one of the largest and most beautiful buildings in Italy.
It was commissioned by king Charles of Bourbon, who wanted a complex just as majestic as the one in Versailles. The palace is the absolute masterpiece of the architect Luigi Vanvitelli.
It covers an area of 44000 square meters and it includes 1200 rooms, 34 staircases and 1742 windows overlooking 4 big internal courtyards. The park, with its spectacular waterfall, is accessible through an imposing portico.
Once you are inside the Palace, you will be blown away by the beauty of the stucco works, bas-reliefs, frescoes, sculptures and inlaid floors.
The tour is a captivating journey through time, experimenting the splendor of the 18th century in Southern Italy.
We’re climbing the magnificent Staircase of Honour to visit the Royal Apartments, including the Sala del Trono (Throne Room) and the room for diplomatic conferences.
Next we’re visiting the small and exquisite Court Theatre (built exclusively for the Royal Family) and the Picture Gallery, which includes paintings representing landscapes, the court life, but also the everyday life of ordinary people.
The wonderful Royal Park is decorated with fountains, gardens and waterfalls adorned with stunning sculpted groups. An internal shuttle bus service is available to visit the extensive park.
