For over three centuries the Medici family have had a very strong bond with the city. Being active merchants and bankers, the Medici were so strongly connected to the Catholic Church and to most other elite families in Europe that they also succeeded in sitting the papal throne (Pope Leo X and Pope Clemente VII) as well as in ascending the throne of France (Catherine de’ Medici, wife of Henry II and Marie de’ Medici, wife of Henry IV). They were patrons of the arts and fostered the Italian Renaissance; proponents of culture and science, they managed to bring Florence as to become the capital of a rich, wealthy and respected government.

Visit of Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the first official residence of the Medici family and famous for its Magi Chapel, masterpiece by Benozzo Gozzoli.
We will continue our journey in the Basilica of San Lorenzo,whose history is linked to the family Medici,which for nearly 300 years has guided the fortuny of Florence and Tuscany. The Basilica became the official church of the family,here were held weddings,baptism,state ceremonies. In front of the famous church will be told the best important events that involved the Medici during their government.

Following, the visit of the Medici Chapels, mausoleum of the Medici family and considered one of the masterpieces by Michelangelo as an architect and sculptor
Than we will visit the splendid Medici chapels,considered one of Michelangelo’s masterpieces.
In the afternoon we will visit Palazzo Vecchio,palace of Cosimo de’ Medici,symbol of the city of Florence, together with Santa Maria del Fiore and Michelangelo’s David, and has always been the seat of the city government.
In all the splendid and beautiful rooms of Palazzo Vecchio you will learn much more about the Medici family and their artistic interest in working with the best artists of the Renaissance period.
Here there are still many secrets:the Studiolo of Francesco I de’ Medici, a tresure which mixes magic alchemy and arts where the Graduke use to keep his most precious and rare objects and the Scrittoio of his father Cosimo I (more known as Tesoretto).
Then we will visit the wonderful Salone dei Cinquecento that celebrates with its decoration the triumph of Cosimo I and of Florence as a whole.
Return in the evening.
